action bar = a pulldown menu within the folio control panel, from which a user can select from among actions available to be taken depending on what type of item is loaded into the item display; when not being selected from it shows the words "Select action".

agenda = the index of all the items in a meeting area's folio, displayed on first entry into a meeting area in the folio viewer, and accessible as the top item listed in the folio navigation bar

comment = a message posted for common viewing as part of the discussion in a meeting area

comment header = the envelope information for a comment, consisting of a subject, author, date (including time of posting), and (optionally) an item reference (itemref).

comment reader = a pane in which an individual posted comment is displayed when its header is clicked on in the discussion index, consisting of the comment reader header and the comment text display; in the default it is displayed within the discussion viewer, below the discussion index

comment reader header = a fixed frame above the comment text display, which shows the comment header for a selected comment; part of the comment reader

comment text display = a variable frame below the comment reader header, which shows the text of a selected coment; part of the comment reader

discussion = a set of comments in a meeting area, viewed through the discussion viewer

discussion index = a pane for browsing through the comment headers in a discussion, consisting of the discussion index control panel and the discussion header list; in the default display it is placed within the discussion viewer, above the comment reader 

discussion index control panel = a fixed frame above the discussion header list, through which a user can post a new comment, select between different sorted views of the discussion index (by subject, author, itemref, or date) and choose between expanded and collapsed mode for the display; part of the discussion index

discussion viewer = in the default display, the right half of a meeting area viewer below the meeting area control panel, and through which the discussion is viewed; it consists of a discussion index and comment reader

folio = the full collection of items under discussion in a meeting area (including documents, discussion items, links, decisions, nonbinding polls, and the agenda), viewed through the folio viewer

folio control panel = a fixed frame above the item display, consisting of  the folio navigation bar, the action bar, and a button for returning to the agendar; part of the folio viewer

folio navigation bar = a pull-down menu on the left side of the folio conrol panel, listing all of the items in a meeting area's folio, and which, when not being selected from, shows the current item in the item display

folio viewer = in the default display, the left half of the meeting area viewer; a pane through which the folio is viewed, and consisting of the folio control panel and the item display

group = the users of a group space; some or all features of a group space may be open only to members

group homepage = the entry point for a group - a viewer showing the group's meeting areas (left column), introduction and group picture (center column), and resources (right column)

group space = an online environment for group interaction, consisting of meeting areas, an introduction and group picture, member directory, library, FAQ, links, and calendar, as well as search, register/update, and chat tools

item = any document, discussion item, decision, nonbinding poll, or the agenda associated with a meeting area; the set of items in a meeting area comprise its folio

item display = a variable frame below the folio control panel, through which a user interacts with an individual item in the folio; part of the folio viewer

item reference (a.k.a. itemref) = a URL corresponding to an item (optionally including a document location, or docloc) to which a comment refers; an itemref is generated for any comment which is the product of either item creation or comment insertion into a document.

meeting area = an agenda-based deliberation area linked from a group home page, consisting of a folio and its associated discussion. Meeting areas can be connected as parents, children, or siblings.

meeting area viewer = the display of a meeting area; in the default display it appears as a folio viewer (left half) and a discussion viewer (right half) placed beneath a meeting area control panel

pane = a separated area for displaying information; a pane is viewed and expanded/contracted as a unit but may be made up of more than one actual frame

POD (a.k.a. Program for Online Deliberation) = a web-based tool for users to create and interact with group spaces

resources = a set of databases (member directory, library, FAQ, links, and calendar) and tools (search, register/update, and chat) accessible on a group homepage. 

viewer = a collection of one or more panes through which a user interacts with POD
